We love storytime and we are really missing it – are you? Each week we will upload videos of us reading stories we love. The stories will link to our English learning. We hope you enjoy watching the videos and listening to the stories.
Week Beginning 29th June 2020
This week’s focus text is ‘The Hueys in THE NEW JUMPER’. This book is about one particular Huey, called Rupert, who doesn’t want to be the same as everyone else. He wants to be different and to express his own style. Celebrating difference is really important to us at Stanley Road. We hope you like this story as much as we do!
Week Beginning 22nd June 2020
This weeks focus story ‘Stuck’ is about a boy who gets his kite stuck in a tree and then throws lots of other (increasingly ridiculous!) things into the tree to try to free his kite. We think this is a bit like traditional cumulative stories- where characters or objects build up until there are lots and lots- like ‘There was an old woman who swallowed a fly!’
This week Miss Taylor is reading ‘Down by the Cool of the Pool’ by Tony Mitton. This is the second book Miss Taylor has read by the same author- can you spot any similarities in these two books? What was the other book called?
Hopefully, later this week Mrs Jones will be reading another example of a cumulative story- we are just waiting on copyright permissions!
Keep checking back for new stories!
Week Beginning 15th June 2020
This week Mrs Jones is reading this week’s core text ‘The Great Paper Caper’ by Oliver Jeffers. This is a mystery story with picture clues for the reader. Oliver Jeffers also says that he wanted it to open up discussions about how to look after our world properly. Hope you enjoy it!
Today, we are adding a video of Miss Taylor reading another mystery story- Spookyrumpus by Tony Mitton.
The third video is Mrs Jones reading ‘The Trouble With Dragons’ by Debi Gliori. Its a lovely story that helps us to think about how we can take care of our world. I think the dragons are actually meant to be another species- I wonder if you agree?!
Week Beginning 9th June 2020
This week Mrs Jones is reading ‘Lost and Found’ by Oliver Jeffers. This is one of our focus texts in English. Miss Taylor is reading ‘The Chimpanzees of Happytown’ by Giles Andreae and Guy Parker-Rees which is another lovely book about friends and how friendships bring us happiness.
‘Lost and Found’ is read with permission of Collins/HarperCollins Children’s Books.
‘The Chimpanzees of Happytown’ is read with the permission of publisher Orchard Books.
