Computing in our school

At Stanley Road Primary school, we believe computing is a vital part of modern-day life and therefore we aim to equip our children with the knowledge and skills they will need in order to access the rapidly changing technological world.

Our intent is that, by the time they leave our school, students have acquired the knowledge, skills and understanding of the use of digital technology in order to use it safely, effectively and imaginatively.

The national curriculum for computing aims to ensure that all pupils:

  • can understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of computer science, including abstraction, logic, algorithms, and data representation
  • can analyse problems in computational terms, and have repeated practical experience of writing computer programs in order to solve such problems.
  • can evaluate and apply information technology, including new or unfamiliar technologies, analytically to solve problems
  • are responsible, competent, confident and creative users of information and communication technology.

    THE IMPORTANCE OF COMPUTING

    We understand the changing world and the role technology plays, therefore our youngest children in Nursery and Reception have supervised and supported access to a range of technologies.

    This includes listening centres using interactive headphones and yoto players, tablet computers, role play equipment to model how technology is used in the home and cameras for them to take photos of their work.
